LuminaCraft Inspiration: Aurelia, Solstice, Meridian, Vela
This one began without a client. Four forms sat on our bench through the winter of 2022 — Aurelia, Solstice, Meridian and Vela — and we drew each of them again and again until it held its own light. They belong to our Inspiration collection: pieces made for no single address, tried instead against the rooms we picture most often. A hallway that needs a soft edge. A reading corner that asks for one small, exact pool. A long wall with nothing on it.
Four ways of holding a bulb
Aurelia is a low ring of warm metal, generous, sending light sideways across a table. Solstice stands tall and thin — one stem, one lens at the top, one narrow cone reaching the floor. Meridian runs in a line, several small sources along a rail, so a corridor can be lit evenly and never look lit. Vela is the quietest of the four: a shallow dish with a diffused glow, meant to sit near the eye without ever being looked at directly.
We built prototypes of all four, in brass, in nickel, in rough iron, and photographed them at different hours. Morning told us where the shadows pooled. Evening told us which pieces settle into a room and which insist on being seen. Those notes went back into the drawings, and some of them still shape the lamps we make for private homes.
An inspiration piece answers no brief. It only keeps a question open — what does this room need, and how little light will answer it.
