Private residence, Thessaloniki
A private house in Thessaloniki, finished in 2024, with the water close enough to move the colour of the walls hour by hour. What we were asked for was restraint: light that stays with the rooms, and lamps that hold their own as objects in daylight. Seven of our series went into this house. Each one was chosen for a single job.
Room by room
The living areas took Colore. The articulated Edison stands at the reading corner, held at its joint by a small red figure, and the Aria domes sit where a wide, warm pool of light was wanted. Colour here is a way of placing a lamp in a room, so the eye knows where to rest.
Above the long dining table the Ledram pendants draw one continuous stroke, two curved discs with the light gathered inside them. The same series flattens itself against the corridor walls as slim discs and marks the way through the house after dark. Giotto Line puts a single straight line into the entrance hall. Up on the landing the Stella Moon hemispheres keep their light inside, so the plaster does the glowing. In the bedrooms Golden Lights and PostCrissi stay low, close to the surfaces they touch. Out on the terrace, where the salt comes in off the gulf, a woven Wireform sphere stands in the open air and holds a small sun until late.
One house, seven series, and a single quality of light from the hall to the water. Nothing shouts. The rooms simply hold.
