A field of lanterns over the old city
Città Alta sits on its hill the way old towns do: stone walls, narrow lanes, and a darkness that gathers early in the valleys below. In 2015 the city asked for light that would not compete with any of it — something to hang above the roofs, to hold the night open without touching the stone.
We answered with the Wireform spheres: hand-woven aluminium, each one a loose open ball that keeps its light inside the weave. Dozens of them went up over the old city, suspended at different heights, so the field reads as one slow constellation rather than a row of lamps. From the ground the wire almost disappears. What remains is a soft round glow, breathing with the wind that moves the cables.
A city seen from below
The stone keeps its colour, the dark keeps its depth, and only the air between them changes. Installations like this one teach us restraint: the light is temporary, the wires are thin, nothing is fixed to the old walls — and still the whole hill reads differently after dusk. Lanterns over the rooftops, a field of small suns, the city walking underneath as if the sky had come down a little.
That is enough.
