Pleat 65 / 66 / 67
Pleat hangs a column of folded light in the room. Three fibreglass shades rest one beneath the other on a single slender rod, each pleated by hand so the rim breaks into a soft, uneven fringe. Lit, the folds keep the brightness inside and let it out sideways, drawing long ribbed shadows across the wall below and along the ceiling.
Made in the workshop
The shades are cut, varnished and pleated one at a time, so no two fringes fall quite the same way. We lacquer the base in black and leave the brass rod untreated; it warms and darkens over the years, keeping a record of the room it lives in. A nickel-plated base and rod answer lighter interiors, and the shades come in natural or white fibreglass. Three sizes, one gesture — the choice changes the shadow more than the lamp.
Light keeps the memory of the hand.
