Midnight 500
The light takes the stage
Midnight 500 is a single dark tube on a flexible stem, standing on a small metal base. It is meant to be hard to notice. Bend the stem and it holds the angle you leave it at, so the beam goes where your hands put it: across an open page, along the rim of a bowl, up to the underside of a shelf. The room reads the light first, and the object afterwards, if at all.
The tube is wound from carbon or techno-fibre and finished by hand, in black to fold into a dark interior or in white to read as one pale line on a light desk. The base and structure are metal, weighted to keep the stem where you set it, and nothing about the surface asks for attention. Inside runs a single GU10 LED at 3000 K with high colour rendering, dimmable down to a thread of light, so the same lamp can hold a working afternoon and a late, low one.
We give the form the least it needs. The versatility belongs to the light.
