Filigree F
Filigree F is a sphere of aluminium wire, drawn out and woven by hand until the form holds itself. The weave stays deliberately irregular — open gaps where the light escapes, denser crossings where it pools. Small bulbs sit at the heart of the sphere, so the emission is direct yet never harsh: the strands catch the glow and draw a fine lattice of shadow across the floor and the wall behind.
Made one wire at a time
Each sphere is shaped over a jig in our workshop, then finished in natural aluminium with a grey cable, or anodized in a matt gold with a gold cable to match. A black dimmer sits on the cable, taking the light from a bright reading pool down to something close to an ember. We make it in four diameters, from 30 cm to a full metre, so the same form can rest beside an armchair or hold the centre of a room.
The first one was made almost twenty years ago, for a project that never used it. It hung in the workshop for years, and every time someone switched it on the room went quiet. We kept building it. Light, held in a loose net of metal.
