Bramble
Bramble is the table form of a simple idea: twelve arms of mouldable brass rising from a base of waxed rough iron, each one holding the bend you give it. Turn a stem toward the wall and it stays. Curl one low over an open page and it stays. Left alone the lamp is a tangle; shaped, it becomes a small thicket with twelve points of light inside it.
Twelve arms, one warm field
We leave the iron rough and waxed, so the surface keeps the marks of the bench instead of a mirror shine. Every arm is cut, bent and sleeved by hand before it takes its E14 socket, and each socket holds a 2700K bulb — close to candlelight, kind to paper and to skin. A dimmer on the cable brings all twelve down together when the evening settles, and lifts them again when the table has to be read at.
A tangle is only a shape you have not chosen yet.
